NICOLÁS DOLENSKY
Argentina
Nicolás Dolensky is an Argentinian director and screenwriter. He graduated from Universidad del Cine and completed the Cinema Program at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. He wrote and directed the short film La Donna, starring Érica Rivas and Claudio Tolcachir, which was screened at 80 festivals, won 20 awards, and was nominated for a Cóndor de Plata for Best Short Film. He was awarded a creation grant from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes (National Endowment for the Arts) for his short film «Una habitación simple» (2022), which won the Best Actress award at the 23rd BAFICI’s National Competition. His project, Nora Cohen, won the Raymundo Gleyzer Feature Film Competition and was selected for Cine Qua Non Lab (México).
Cineasta argentino, director y guionista del cortometraje LA DONNA, protagonizado por Érica Rivas y Claudio Tolcachir. Obtuvo la beca Creación del Fondo Nacional de las Artes para realizar su segundo cortometraje, UNA HABITACIÓN SIMPLE, que recibió el premio a mejor actriz en la competencia argentina del BAFICI 2023 y fue destacado como Vimeo Staff Pick.

In recent years, I started noticing more and more friends looking for alternative ways to make a living, as salaries from traditional jobs are no longer enough to cover basic needs or pursue greater financial and personal goals. Many of them turned to online sex work. In Argentina, where inflation is constant and the local currency quickly loses value, society relies on dollars as a way to protect income. In this context, the opportunity to be your own boss feels not only appealing but urgent. STUNNER BLUE GIRL was born from a series of interviews with online sex workers in Buenos Aires. What first caught my attention was that all of them speak English fluently and broadcast in that language, presenting themselves as if they were from the United States. This choice is strategic: transmitting in English allows them to reach an international audience willing to pay in dollars. That’s why English became the primary language of the film. With this project, I wanted to craft a contemporary portrait of how labor precarization and the pursuit of autonomy intertwine. At its core lies a reflection on screens: how they shape our desires, filter our perception, and mediate our most intimate encounters. We inhabit a capitalist system where even intimacy is branded, consumed, and sold. This raises a disturbing question: do we live to consume, or consume to live? And beneath it all, a deeper inquiry emerges: what happens to our identity when the body itself becomes commodity and capital? Rather than passing judgment, STUNNER BLUE GIRL seeks to accompany Valentina and enter a universe that, for many, remains hidden, distant, or taboo.
En los últimos años empecé a notar que cada vez más amigos buscan formas alternativas de ganarse la vida, porque los sueldos de los trabajos tradicionales ya no alcanzan para cubrir lo básico ni para perseguir objetivos más grandes, económicos o personales. Muchos de ellos se volcaron al trabajo sexual online. En Argentina, donde la inflación es constante y la moneda local pierde valor con rapidez, la sociedad recurre al dólar como modo de resguardar los ingresos. En este contexto, la posibilidad de ser tu propio jefe resulta no solo atractiva, sino urgente. STUNNER BLUE GIRL nació a partir de una serie de entrevistas con trabajadoras sexuales online en Buenos Aires. Lo primero que me llamó la atención fue que todas hablaban inglés con fluidez y transmitían en ese idioma, presentándose como si fueran de Estados Unidos. La decisión es estratégica: hacerlo en inglés les permite llegar a una audiencia internacional dispuesta a pagar en dólares. Por eso, el inglés se convirtió en el idioma principal de la película. En STUNNER BLUE GIRL, busqué construir un retrato contemporáneo sobre cómo se entrelazan la precarización laboral y la búsqueda de autonomía. En el fondo, la película propone una reflexión sobre las pantallas: cómo moldean nuestros deseos, filtran la percepción y median los encuentros más íntimos. Habitamos un sistema capitalista en el que incluso la intimidad se marca, se consume y se vende. Eso abre una pregunta inquietante: ¿vivimos para consumir o consumimos para vivir? Y detrás de todo, aparece una inquietud más profunda: ¿qué pasa con la identidad cuando el cuerpo mismo se vuelve mercancía y capital? Lejos de emitir juicios, STUNNER BLUE GIRL busca acompañar a Valentina y entrar en un universo que para muchos sigue siendo oculto, distante o tabú.
